MAXIMUS ensures former Work Programme customer’s business goes from strength to strength

A former MAXIMUS UK customer, Jim Murray, has set up his own registered company which now employs 16 staff, after first joining the MAXIMUS Romford Work programme in July 2011.

Although he was initially engaging with the programme in search of full-time employment, Mr Murray had previously worked at a cleaning organisation and, following his induction in the programme, he signed off jobseekers allowance and decided to use his experience and knowledge of the industry to become self-employed, supported every step of the way by our dedicated Employment Consultants.

Mr Murray’s business, Alternative Cleaning Company, has secured 11 contracts since its launch and continues to grow across London and the South East. Although Mr Murray has now exited the Work Programme, MAXIMUS continues to support him, which has included providing cleaning operatives as part of our employment opportunities offered through the Work Programme in Romford, and the company also currently delivers cleaning facilities for three Maximus centres in East London. MAXIMUS has also been helping Mr Murray to promote his business and has provided ongoing guidance and mentoring.

Colin Heath, Business Manager, MAXIMUS Romford UK said:

“We are delighted with the progress Jim has made and how far he’s come by setting up his company. Here at MAXIMUS we are very keen to support local businesses with a focus on job opportunities being offered to local residents, and Alternative Cleaning Company are more than happy to embrace this approach. This is a great success and something we are very proud to have been involved in.”

Jim Murray said:

“I’m very grateful for all the support given to me by Maximus. It has been invaluable and I wouldn’t have been where I am today without their guidance. Our main aim is to continue providing a first class cleaning service to all existing and new customers and I’m positive that Alternative Cleaning Company will continue to grow.”
