Marking International Nurses’ Day

In recognition of International Nurses’ Day, we’re celebrating our many talented nurses who work hard to transform the lives of our customers and make a difference in communities every day.

And this year’s theme, ‘Invest in nursing and respect rights to secure global health’, is close to our heart.

At Maximus, we help thousands of people find employment, access expert support, and stay healthy in their workplace or community. It is important work which has a profound impact on the lives of millions of people every year.

We couldn’t do it without the dedication and commitment of our nursing colleagues. They are committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of the people we support, and we are committed to supporting them.

Suzie Frew, Head of Quality, shares why International Nurses’ Day and investing in nursing is so important to Maximus:

“International Nurses’ Day always makes me reflect not only on my own nursing career, but on how far nurses have come in healthcare in general, across Maximus and within our Assessment Division.

“From a small band of nine nurses back in 2006 to more than 600 today, nurses make up the largest cohort of clinicians in Maximus.

“It is a testament to the extensive skills and experience across our nurse population that we have been consistently successful in functional assessments and occupational health.

“We also have many nurses in leadership positions, and when you combine the experience and skills of our nurses with the commitment from Maximus to support, invest in and develop all our people, this is a great recipe for a successful business.

“As we look to the future there are so many exciting opportunities to continue to transform and improve the services we can offer. After almost 30 years in nursing, I am still incredibly proud to be a registered nurse and to work for Maximus, knowing that I can make a difference in people’s lives.”

Investing in clinical careers

We are committed to investing in the clinical careers of our nurses, to enable them to use their clinical skills and experience in a new way. That’s why we:

• Offer mentorship and training opportunities throughout the year to progress our colleagues’ careers in a way that’s right for them
• Hold annual clinical conferences and development days to enhance clinical knowledge and share expertise
• Have a dedicated programme for Continued Medical Education, with time allocated to clinical training
• Provide support through the revalidation process and reimburse the cost of professional revalidation fees

While International Nursing Day is an important day in the Maximus calendar, these initiatives and others are all part of an ongoing commitment to nurses across our business.

We are working hard to ensure everyone has the support and development opportunities they need to thrive in their clinical career with us.
