This year marks a major milestone for Maximus as we celebrate 50 years of helping people transform their lives. Since our US beginnings, we’ve evolved with the changing needs of society, while staying true to our purpose. Whether it’s supporting someone to find meaningful employment, improve their health or access the support they need to move forward, our commitment has never wavered.
In the UK, over the past 20 years, we’ve helped more than 350,000 people secure employment, supported over 45,000 people with mental health conditions to stay in or return to work, delivered more than 7 million assessments, helped 6 million lead healthier lives and handled over 16 million contact centre enquiries. These numbers don’t just reflect the scale of our services. They also demonstrate meaningful impact we’ve had on individuals, families and communities.
As we celebrate our legacy, we’re also looking forward to the future. This year saw the launch of our new Transformation team, established to reimagine how we design and deliver services. From exploring the role of AI in frontline delivery to enhancing customer journeys, we’re focused on making our services more accessible, efficient, and human-centred.
Our impact
Throughout the last 12 months, our dedicated teams have continued to work in close collaboration with employers and specialist private, public and third-sector organisations who form part of our Community Partnership Network, to help more than 45,000 people move into sustainable work.
In Wales, where our heritage stretches back 80 years through Remploy, we’ve been supporting those furthest from the labour market through specialist employability programmes like Work and Health Programme Pioneer and the Intensive Personalised Employment Support service.
While in the West Midlands and North West, one of the most impactful programmes we’ve delivered in recent years came to an end earlier this year after providing nearly two years of vital support to some of society’s most marginalised individuals. Through the Refugee Employability Programme, more than 2,600 refugees have been supported to rebuild their lives. 28% of those went on to secure employment – a vital first step towards independence.
We’ve also been supporting those struggling with their mental health, to stay in or return to work, through the Access to Work Mental Health Support Service. With poor mental health now the leading cause of sickness absence in the UK, this service plays a crucial role in helping individuals thrive at work while supporting employers to build healthier, more resilient workplaces. We’re proud to have recently secured a new four-year contract to continue delivering the service. This reaffirms our long-term commitment to improving mental health in the workplace.
Across all our services, we know that lasting transformation comes from listening and designing support around real needs. This year, we continued to co-design community health and lifestyle services in 13 local authorities across the country. We worked hand-in-hand with local communities to create inclusive, preventative solutions that promote healthier lifestyles for adults, families and children.
Long-lasting social value
Beyond the services we deliver, our commitment to delivering long-lasting social value runs through everything we do. This year, donations through our Local Impact Fund reached £220,000, with 23 charities and community organisations awarded grants to support their work making a positive difference in local communities. Meanwhile, our colleague-led charitable foundation, Maximus Foundation UK, surpassed £650,000 in grants – ensuring we’re making a meaningful difference where it matters most.
As we reflect on 50 years of impact, we remain deeply committed to ensuring our values are embedded in everything we do. This year, we’ve expanded our reach, deepened our impact, and set the foundations for the next chapter through innovation, partnership, and community investment.
We’re looking to the future with optimism and ambition, for the people we support, the communities we serve, and the partners we work alongside.
