Charity awarded grant to provide outdoor experiences to disabled children

Milton Keynes charity Climb Your Mountain has been presented with a grant of £2,500 from MAXIMUS Foundation UK to support its provision of outdoor and mountaineering experiences for disabled children.

Charlie Wardle, General Manager from Climb Your Mountain received the award from MAXIMUS Foundation trustee Laura Turner and Theresa Adams, who also nominated the charity for the grant. Climb Your Mountain organises climbing and mountaineering excursions for disabled children and their parents – including those with amputations, autism, cerebral palsy, sight and hearing impairments.

Climb Your Mountain will use the grant to fund five excursions for up to five disabled children, along with their parents, siblings and carers – accompanied by qualified personnel and volunteers.

The MAXIMUS Foundation UK was founded in 2015 with a remit of providing grants to local charities and non-profit organisations that support disadvantaged groups. In particular those contributing to personal growth and self-sufficiency in areas of health, employment and community development.

Marilyn Saunders, Chair of MAXIMUS Foundation UK, said: “What Climb Your Mountain do is remarkable. The trips they organise for children and their families provide incredible experiences that most parents might think were impossible. And this isn’t about providing a one-off experience, but building a child’s confidence and social skills.”

Charlie Wardle, General Manager of Climb Your Mountain, said: “We see firsthand what a difference these excursions make, not to just to children but to their parents and siblings. The value of providing these experiences and opportunities for development can’t be underestimated, and we’re grateful for the Foundation’s support.”

MAXIMUS Foundation UK has donated £85,000 in grants to charities and community groups in the last year. The Foundation has called for further grant applications from local charities and community organisations.
