Department for Work and Pensions extends MAXIMUS contract to deliver the Health Assessment Advisory Service for a further two years

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has exercised its option to extend MAXIMUS contract to deliver the Health Assessment Advisory Service until March 2020.

Centre for Health and Disability Assessments (CHDA), operated by MAXIMUS, assumed responsibility for the service in 2015. Highly trained doctors, nurses and therapists conduct assessments on behalf of DWP for people claiming Employment and Support Allowance and other benefits. Once an assessment is completed, DWP uses the assessment report and other evidence to determine a person’s eligibility for benefits.

Since taking over the service, CHDA has hired hundreds of new Healthcare Professionals, increased the volume of assessments delivered and reduced the average time that customers spend in the assessment process by almost half. Our relentless focus on improving customer experience has contributed to customer satisfaction scores of over 94%.

MAXIMUS Chief Executive Officer Richard A. Montoni said:

“The extension of this contract reflects the unique expertise which MAXIMUS can deliver when helping those who use government healthcare and other social services programmes.

I would like to thank our team, partners and other stakeholders for their continued hard work and dedication. As the driving force behind our continued success they have enabled us to deliver a high quality service to our customers.”

Dr Paul Williams, Programme Director, CHDA said:

“Our mission is to help customers move forward with their lives by providing a quality, sensitive and respectful service. So we are delighted to be continuing our partnership with DWP to deliver the Health Assessment Advisory Service.

Our approach is anchored by a commitment to listen to disabled people, charities and customers. At the start of our contract we established a Customer Representative Group to ensure that the experiences and needs of our customers were at the heart of everything we do. This collaboration has been instrumental in some of the most significant improvements we have introduced. We look forward to continuing our work with DWP and stakeholders to improve the service further over the coming years.”
