Launching free healthy living courses to empower Oxfordshire residents to achieve a healthy weight

From today, thousands of Oxfordshire residents will have access to free healthy living courses, with expert health coaches and nutritionists offering support to empower people to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.

Commissioned by Oxfordshire County Council, we will be delivering in-person support in community venues across the county, with digital and telephone support also available.

Designed to fit in with busy lives, programme participants will benefit from one-to-one advice from a nutritionist along with access to interactive group sessions to help them make small, realistic changes. Each programme has been specifically tailored to meet the needs of its target group:

  • Beezee Adults delivers online and in-person sessions for 12 weeks, focusing on adults over 18 years old who are above their ideal weight on the NHS BMI centile chart.
  • Beezee Families provides 12 weeks of online and in-person sessions, supporting families with children aged between four and 12 years old who are above their ideal weight on the NHS BMI centile chart. Building healthy habits rather than losing weight is the primary focus of our family sessions.
  • Gutless offers 10 weeks of online group sessions, specifically for men who are above their ideal weight on the NHS BMI centile chart.

In Oxfordshire, more than half of adults and around one in three children aged 10 to 11 are living with excess weight, so these programmes will provide vital support to guide people towards healthier choices, while accessing a supportive community.

Councillor Dr Nathan Ley, Cabinet Member for Public Health, Inequalities and Safety at Oxfordshire County Council, said: “We welcome the launch of Beezee in Oxfordshire, bringing together a number of programmes to support Oxfordshire residents to make healthy, sustainable lifestyle changes in order lead active and fulfilling lives. By making small, simple steps residents will be able to see a big difference in their overall wellbeing.”

Craig Walker, Operations Director of Health at Maximus, said: We’re delighted to be bringing our health and wellbeing expertise to Oxfordshire with the launch of our healthy lifestyle programmes. Beezee in Oxfordshire will provide tailored advice and guidance that will help thousands of people live a healthier life, so we’re looking forward to making a real difference to the health of the county.”
