“I joined Remploy in January 2008 as the branch coordinator for our newly opened Edinburgh office. I had just graduated from university with a degree in psychology and this was my first job out in the big bad world. I originally applied for an employment advisor role however was unsuccessful due to lack of experience so was offered the branch coordinator role managing reception.

After starting the role my manager invested a lot of time in developing me to be able to conduct the role of the employment advisor. A year later when an opportunity came up I applied for the role and was successful. Within that year I gained a lot of new skills, and in particular enjoyed the employer engagement aspect of it.

A year later, again after lots of support and encouragement from my manager and senior management I was successful in securing the role of account manager for the Edinburgh office. I became very good at this role to the point that my manager gave me the opportunity to train other account managers across the country who were needing support.

When I visited the office in London to train some account managers, I was made aware of a business manager role that was vacant and the thought of moving down there sparked my interest.

Despite having no line management experience, my experience of training and developing staff as well as involvement in operations within the Edinburgh office made me suitable. I applied for the role and was successful. In 2012, at 25 years of age, I moved down to London with my husband and became the business manager for one of Remploy’s biggest branches. After 3 great years in London, I applied for a transfer to become business manager for the Edinburgh branch – back where it all started – as I had my daughter and decided back home was the best place to raise my family.

One year later at 29 years of age I was promoted to the operations manager role which I have been doing for the last 5 years.

I am a HUGE advocate of Maximus and Remploy for being a great place to develop and progress for people. I have had 13 amazing years with the company and secured roles which I would never have had the opportunity of doing had it not been for the support of my managers and the business. A fantastic place to work.”

“I joined Remploy as a Branch Co-ordinator nearly 9 years ago and it has been a journey to where the company is in the current shape. During this time I was encouraged to move into a secondment role of a Recruiter, which then changed into a permanent role of an Employment Advisor. As my experience and expertise grew, my manager encouraged me to apply for a Lead EA role, where I would support the team in achieving their targets and deputise for the Business Manager.

Since then I moved into a Quality & Compliance Key Worker role, where I was providing internal quality assurance to all the teams in Scotland and working closely with the Business Managers to promote high quality and compliance standards at all times, also through training and coaching of the new and existing staff.

As this role progressed, recently I was offered a secondment role within the Central Services Team of the Quality Assurance Team headed by Senior Quality Assurance Partner Charlotte Berkeley, where I am currently supporting with a DWP File Retrieval Audit. This is a fantastic opportunity, where I can learn new skills and work alongside one of the teams whose work have a direct impact on the whole company.

I feel that my hard work, as well as getting involved in a number of national projects and taking on additional responsibilities had not gone unnoticed and I very much appreciate this opportunity, where I can contribute skills that I already have while learning brand new ones.”
