Supporting our JETS participants with Citizens Advice

Maximus has been working closely with Citizens Advice for more than two years. With our support, our participants are given the opportunity to gain work experience with the organisation, as well as receiving guidance and employment training to help them secure work.

Rob Butterton, from North Wales, has been working for Citizens Advice in Denbighshire and Ruthin for 12 months, following support from Maximus.

Prior to joining the Job Entry: Targeted Support (JETS) service last year, Rob had struggled to secure employment due to severe anxiety and his lack of confidence.

He said: “I’ve suffered with anxiety all my life and found getting a job really hard. I always seemed to stumble at the interview stage because my nerves would get the better of me.

“Even though I researched and used the STAR interview techniques and questions to help me prepare, my anxiety and low confidence still showed. I was at a loss to what else I could do; I just needed a chance.”

Supported by the JETS service, Rob, 26, remotely attended development and wellbeing sessions, created a new CV and received intensive interview coaching, before securing his position as a Generalist Advisor at Citizens Advice last November.

Rob explained: “This is my first permanent position since graduating. Being in work has helped develop my social skills and my confidence has grown.

“The best part of my job is being able to help people and make a difference in their lives, it’s rewarding and satisfying.

“I would recommend Maximus to anyone struggling to find work. If it wasn’t for the support I received from the team, I wouldn’t have secured my position with Citizens Advice. I feel extremely proud and couldn’t be happier.”

Eleri Jones, Office Manager at Citizens Advice, said: “Since joining, Rob has come a long way and his confidence has soared, he is a big asset to our organisation.”
