Thousands of refugees across the North West of England and West Midlands will have access to expert employment support through a new programme which launches today.

Maximus will deliver the Refugee Employability Programme on behalf of the Home Office, supporting refugees to find work and settle in their local community.

The programme, funded by the UK Government, provides tailored support to refugees who face significant barriers to work, utilising the relationships Maximus have developed with employers, skills providers and local expert partners to match individuals with sustainable jobs.

Maximus will also provide English language provision to those who need it as well as wider integration support, which can include signposting to community organisations, mental health services, local authorities and other mainstream services.

The programme is designed to complement mainstream provision from Jobcentre Plus and other agencies.

Gareth Parry, Programme Director for Employability at Maximus, said; “We’re proud to be delivering this innovative programme providing refugees with the skills they need to settle in their community. Finding a job can prove invaluable in helping refugees find their feet at what we know can be an incredibly challenging time.

“We’ve already started working fantastic organisations who do incredible work supporting refugees and their families, complementing existing provision with our specialist employment and skills expertise. We’d encourage anyone who might benefit to check out our website and get in touch.”
