Dr Paul Williams, UK Division President at Maximus, has been awarded a Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) in recognition of his contribution to the healthcare profession.
The RCP was founded by Royal Charter in 1518 and is the professional body dedicated to improving the practice of medicine in the UK. It awards Fellowships to individuals who have made an important contribution to medicine, and Dr Williams joins a prestigious group of inspirational and innovative physicians around the world invited to join.
Dr Williams graduated from Leeds Medical School in 1987, becoming a General Practitioner in 1992 before retraining in occupational medicine in 2001. As a leading expert on workplace health, he held a number of high-profile clinical roles in the NHS, local government, policing and manufacturing, becoming President of the Society of Occupational Medicine in 2017.
He joined Maximus in 2015, first as Chief Medical Officer and then as Programme Director for the Centre for Health and Disability Assessments, before becoming UK Division President in 2018. In his role he leads one of the largest private employers of healthcare professionals in the UK, with more than 1300 clinicians delivering services on behalf of the UK Government.
Over recent years, alongside his role, he has continued to contribute to the profession as a tutor for master’s students in occupational medicine. He also speaks regularly on topics including the role of AI and other technologies in improving healthcare.
On his Fellowship award, Dr Paul Williams said: “It’s an honour to join the many inspiring clinicians who hold the Royal College of Physicians Fellowship. I hope this fellowship allows me to continue supporting physicians as they develop their careers and to contribute to good medical practice, particularly in the field of occupational medicine which plays such an important role in making sure that people remain healthy and productive at work.”
